OUR RESIDENTS:
We
do not have photos of all 75 tigers at
Riverglen. If we did, careful side by side comparison of them
would reveal unique patterns of stripes and facial features.
No two tigers--even from the same litter--look alike.
However, the way they differ the most is in their distinct
personalities. Just like humans, some tigers are easygoing and
playful, others brooding and shy. Part of the proper care of
these intelligent creatures is in treating them as individuals,
learning and respecting their differences.
Tigers from a
rescue often bring with them certain "emotional baggage" from their
old life. Certain tigers are aggressive or fearful toward men
in general, people wearing plaid shirts, bearded faces, bill caps,
or certain types of equipment. Tigers also may react strongly
to strong perfumes, colognes, or scented hairspray. Staff and
volunteers are mindful of these disturbances and avoid them as far
as possible, and duty assignments are aimed at the happiest possible
match between workers and residents. |
